People have certainly been known to build collections out of Babycham promotional items or Guinness or Coca-Cola items (all of which have their own sub-categories on eBay) – we’ve just gone a bit more obscure by collecting items relating to the long gone brand of shandy, Chandy.
Our collection started a few years ago with a single Chandy lion figurine. We then started looking for some Chandy branded glasses to go with it (in the same way a few branded Babycham glasses go well with our Babycham fawn figurine), but discovered that the one promotional item Chandy really didn’t go in for was glasses! Instead we found they did lots of other promotional items, which we started collecting with an increasing obsession that now takes in a daily eBay search for Chandy items and a desire to find out about as much as possible about the long forgotten shandy brand that they tried so many ideas to promote in the 1950s, 1960s and early 1970s, only for it to disappear by the mid-1970s.
The collection now includes over one hundred different and well over a hundred and seventy-five Chandy items in total (mainly because we do have quite a few little Chandy lions). We think it might be the world’s leading collection of Chandy items but probably because it’s the world's only collection of Chandy items!
The Chandy Museum isn’t a museum you can visit, but an online presentation of our collection and a site dedicated to the memory of Chandy, the drink for thirsty drivers!
You can explore all the items in the collection from here, and read all about Chandy and the things we’ve found out about it from here, or please feel free to contact us. We'd love to hear from you if you have any (nice) comments, memories of Chandy or can help us add to the collection.
