1960s Chandy-sponsored Air Day posters

We are indebted to Andrew Hilton for the donation of the two Chandy-sponsored Air Day posters pictured on this page to the museum.

The larger poster (which measures 14 by 21 inches and is pictured here with a Chandy lion to indicate scale) was created to promote the 1964 Air Day held at Arbroath that included the Scottish Parachute Championships, where, as the poster notes, the Chandy Trophy was awarded. Also promised on the day were a flying display, side shows and a fun fair, along with the Massed Pipes and Drums of the Black Watch and more, all for the small sum of two shillings and sixpence (12.5p.) for adults or just one shilling (5p.) for children attending.

The smaller poster (which measures 13 by 3.5 inches and is pictured here below the larger poster) was created to promote the 1965 Air Day, which that year took place in July and again included the Scottish Parachute Championships for the Chandy Trophy.

Both posters are extremely rare and in particular the larger one is now an extremely fragile item, needing to be handled with the utmost care.

The posters are certainly amongst the rarest and most highly prized items we have in the Chandy Museum's collection.
