Chandy beer mat in various Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps series 4 episodes first broadcast 2004
In various season four episodes of Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, as originally broadcast on the BBC in 2004, an old Chandy beer mat can clearly be seen decorating the wall behind Gaz and Donna's bed.
Given the episodes were made in 2004 and the beer mat dates from the early-1970s, the set designers probably bought some old beer mats off eBay, or used somebody's old beer mat collection to dress the set.
The series has been repeated in recent years on the channel Viva, and various episodes and clips can currently be found on YouTube. The clip here, for example, includes the beer mat on view.
Chandy on screen - obscure sightings of Chandy items on film and TV
It probably won't surprise you to learn that we like watching the odd bit of vintage TV and film here at the Chandy Museum, and if it's something British we always keep an eye out for spotting any Chandy items. But sightings are rare - and very few and far between. This page details the five sightings made to date of Chandy items on film and TV. It will be expanded if and when we spot any more, and it goes without saying that if you know of any more or ever spot any more we'd love to hear from you: contact us.
Sightings don't come much more obscure than this! In 1970 Pathe News took some travelling shots of London streets from a car. The resulting silent film shows traffic and buses of the day, and a London very different to today's. And at one point during the 23 minutes of footage the camera is driven past Waterloo Station where ... DRUM ROLL ... a Chandy advert is seen on a billboard.
The billboard only ever appears on the extreme left of the screen and never in full - the picture you see here is the best screenshot possible of it. We're surmising the advert in full says: Chandy THE DRINK FOR DRIVERS. It shows the word 'Chandy' in red on a yellow background with an image of a set of car keys to its right.
The film in full can be seen here.
(The Chandy billboard can be seen around 12.44 on the counter.)

Chandy bottle in Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? episode 'Heart to Heart' first broadcast January 1974
In episode two of series three of The Liver Birds, as originally broadcast on the BBC on 18th February 1972, there can clearly be seen some Chandy bottles – see pics above. Apparently, Beryl (one of the Liver Birds) is clearing up after a house-warming party held the previous evening and clears away three bottles from the coffee table carrying them on a tray. At least two of the bottles are Chandy bottles. Presumably it was a pretty raucous party if all the guests managed to consume were one bottle of Watney’s Pale Ale, three bottles of Chandy and some cups of tea – as those appear to be all the items that are left on the coffee table after the party!
The episode, which is entitled ‘Birds on the Dole’, has been aired in recent years on the channels Gold and Drama, and can at times be found on YouTube. The Chandy bottles appear on screen between around 6 and 7 minutes into the episode.

Just for interest (and this image can be removed if Google Street View object!), here is an image of the same view today.
Obviously quite a lot has changed, and some of the buildings in the background of the image are the only constant. The green on which the billboard used to stand is now occupied by the Park Plaza Hotel.
In episode two of series two of Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?, as originally broadcast on the BBC in January 1974, a Chandy bottle can clearly be seen behind the counter in the opening scene in the pub. It can be seen highlighted in the above picture where it appears alongside a bottle of Cossack Vodka and a bottle of Teacher’s Whisky, and in amongst some quite dreadful 1970s pub décor. Sadly, it wasn’t purchased by either of the lead characters, Bob and Terry - the Likely Lads, who it seems preferred to enjoy an alcoholic beverage, and nor did it appear on screen with them, so the screenshot above with the Chandy bottle in it shows pub landlord Jack (Norman Mitchell) and barmaid Gloria (Lorna Wilde). (Isn’t imdb great!?)
The episode, which is entitled ‘Heart to Heart', has been aired in recent years on the channels Gold and Drama, and can also sometimes be found on YouTube. The Chandy bottle appears on screen at various times during the first 2 or 3 minutes into the episode.
Chandy bottles in Steptoe and Son episode 'A Star Is Born' also first broadcast February 1972
This one is definitely a blink-and-you'd-miss-it moment, but in episode two of series seven of Steptoe and Son, as originally broadcast on the BBC on 28th February 1972, there can clearly be seen some Chandy bottles – see pics above. Having joined the local amateur dramatic society only to be dramatically outshone by his father, Harold is seen drowning his sorrows in his dressing room. He's seen drinking Haig whisky, but also on the table, as a less intoxicating offering, are a number of bottles of Chandy!
The episode, which is entitled ‘A Star Is Born’, has been aired in recent years on the channels Drama and Yesterday, and can sometimes be found on YouTube. The Chandy bottles appear on screen briefly at a couple of points at around 25 minutes into the episode.
